LANDSCAPE STUDY: HOW PREVALENT IS DYSPRAXIA?
In 2022, the Hong Kong Dyspraxia Foundation and The Education University of Hong Kong collaborated to research the prevalence of Dyspraxia in Hong Kong and the impact on the lives of those affected. The research reveals that Dyspraxia is prevalent among Hong Kong children and its effects appears to increase with age.
Our study estimated that nearly one in five children in Hong Kong are affected by Dyspraxia.
* One in ten children needs to be included in educational support to lessen the impact of motor coordination impairment on their daily lives.
* 19.7% of children would benefit from support work for motor coordination disorders.
* The study showed that motor coordination impairment is common among children in Hong Kong and becomes more pronounced with age. Those categorised to have suspect dyspraxia/DCD make up 13.8% among 5 to 7 years old, 21.9% among 7 to 9 years old, and 24.3% among 10 to 12 years old.
Those with suspect dyspraxia tend to have:

poorer overall health
-
lower physical activity
-
less positive emotions
-
more severe cognitive difficulties
